John Ulness started Ulness Health Insurance Agents (then known as Benefit Options 1­2­3), in 2000. John has seen many changes in the health insurance industry, from the creation of Medicare prescription drug plans and the Medicare Advantage program, to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), and has become an expert in all aspects. John served a two-year term as chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Wisconsin Association of Health Underwriters where he worked with attorneys and industry consultants to shape the future of health insurance laws in Wisconsin. John is a 1977 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He believes consumers will ultimately reform our health care insurance system by insisting on a model that rewards health, not illness.

In 2007, Pam joined her husband in the business. As an insurance agent, she uses her skills as a former teacher to educate clients about the complicated business of health insurance. Pam is an expert in Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare prescription drug plans, and individual & family health insurance plans. Pam is a 1977 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Pam retired in 2023 and now spends most of her free time golfing, volunteering and going for walks with her beloved golden retriever, Jordy.

Marit Ulness, daughter of John and Pam, joined the family business in 2010. Since then, Marit has blossomed into a great insurance agent. Marit’s outgoing personality and positive attitude make her well-suited for an industry that can be frustrating and complicating for clients. Marit is an expert in Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare prescription drug plans, and individual & family health insurance plans. She is especially adept at navigating HealthCare.Gov’s “Obamacare” website. Marit is a 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. She is the mother to three wonderful young boys: Owen, Jens, and West.

Erik Ulness, John and Pam’s oldest son, joined Ulness Health in 2014 as a broker and agency manager. He is also the founding broker of the Minnesota office. Erik performs many of the business administrative duties for the agency including agent contracting, agency acquisitions, and financial reporting. In 2023, Erik started Bloc Whiz, an independent consulting business focused on helping other agencies with AgencyBloc data clean-up and commissions processing. Erik is a 2004 graduate of Luther College and a 2007 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. He and his wife, Annie, spend their free time hiking, traveling and adventuring with their young son, Arne.

Don Bachaus joined Ulness Health in 2023 after many years experience working as an agent in Affordable Care Act sales for Blue Cross Blue Shield and in Medicare sales for UnitedHealthcare. Previously, Don worked as a real estate and golf course developer locally, nationally and internationally. He has a very supportive and adventurous wife, Michelle, and two wonderful, well-accomplished children. Don’s hobbies include watching all Wisconsin sports teams, golfing, traveling and spending time with the family including their two dogs.

James Boland joined Ulness Health in 2023 as an independent agent in southeast Wisconsin. James is a 2003 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in English and holds a master’s certificate in education. He is also a licensed financial advisor. James enjoys improv comedy and playing board games. He and his wife, Claire, enjoy cooking together and spending time with their three wonderful daughters: Leona, Zinnia, and Ruby.
